One parent wrote a letter of concerns addressed directly to administration stating we were not meeting the social developmental needs of students. Therefore, I held a multiple discussions with students where they could voice their opinions. 4. Creative Thinking Engages in and fosters an environment for others to engage in innovative thinking. |
To push students thinking we created a Maker Space area in our Media Center. Students are able to work collaboratively to create new things and solve existing problems. My mentor principal and I also allowed our teachers to get creative and structure their remediation block as they saw fit. We wanted teachers to be innovative and be able to mix classes (different and same grade level) of students to best serve student needs. |
|
5. Customer Focus Understands the students as customers of the work of schooling and the servant nature of leadership and acts accordingly. |

The PLC form I created pushes for dialogue, inquiry, and collaboration among teachers. I modeled this through asking the following questions during PLCs: *Using data to drive your answer, how are students preforming? *What instructional changes need to made to increase student achievement? *What can we learn from students' data to drive instruction? |

|
10. Global Perspective Understand the competitive nature of the new global economy and is clear about the knowledge and skills students will need to be successful in this economy. |
As a school we believe that it is important to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to be competitive in a global society. Therefore, our BETA members work with our K-8 students building to grow their leadership capacities. Our BETA students participate in leadership development in which funnels throughout our building with their modeling and direct peer instruction. I also visited a school in Ghana in which I observed the pedological practices of teachers and skills they were equipping students to compare with our current curriculum at our school to ensure they were receiving a holistic globally competitive education. |

11. Judgement Effectively reaching logical conclusions and making high quality decisions based on available information. Giving priority and caution to significant issues. Analyzing and interpreting complex information. |
In March I was the only administrator on campus and had to use my judgement to make a decision that impacted the entire school. The 7th grade class had went on a field trip to Raleigh and got stuck in traffic coming back. Two of our normal bus drivers were the drivers for the 7th grade field trip. Students are normally dismissed at 3:00pm, and were scheduled to arrive back at school at 3:20. I had to executive decision to hold all of the busses, until the 7th graders got back. I also had to decide if I wanted to hold car riders since 7th grade parents were in the line, but the students weren't back. I decided to release car riders as normal to prevent traffic from being backed up into town. And instructed parents to park in the parking lot to wait for students arrival. Although this wasn't the most desirable situation, I had to do what I believed was going to be best for students and families. |

I look at the data both individually and as a whole and use it to create focuses for areas of improvement. |

I worked alongside the PBIS team to create a vision for PBIS over the next 3 years of implementation. The vision provides the structure and culture of achievement for every student. Also, during PTO meetings I often discussed the "re-branding" of our school due to it being a newly formed K-8. Parents were eager to help with this process over the next couple of years. |
