Standard 1: Strategic Leadership
School executives will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals in the 21st century. Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether unpredictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on its core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.
Element 1a. School Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals: The school's identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community.
Artifact 1: Empowering Student Leadership
PROWL Introduction Video |
As stated in our school mission, we provide the avenue for students to unleash their talents so express their creativity. I created and organized a series of videos to show their peers our P.R.O.W.L expectations. The students' names listed in the credits created a vision for their series, directed, edited and published their videos. |
Artifact 2: Strategic Schoolwide Goal to Empower Students to be College & Career Ready
As a school we believe we need to equip our students will skills to ensure they are College and Career Ready beyond high school.
We put structures in place to ensure that every student at Kenansville Elementary K-8 engaged in at least one College/Career field trip on a college campus. In addition to in person college tours, every K-8 teacher is also required to do a virtual college tour at least once a month with their students in which they submit their tour information via Google Forms. |

To address the career aspect, I took students to a career fair in which students could choose to hear from over 20 different occupations that they gain insight in. Prior to the trip, students took a career questionnaire which provided them with careers that align to their personal interests. Using their results they researched their job demand, prerequisites requirements and potential salaries. |
