Standard 6: External Development Leadership
A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but in fact build community, the leader proactively creates with staff opportunities for parents, community and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investments of resources and good will are not left to chance.
Element 6a. Parent and Community Involvement and Outreach: The school executive designs structures and process which result in parent and community engagement, support, and ownership for the school.
Artifact 1: Parent Enrichment Workshops
This year was a transition for not only students and staff, but parents as well. This year I worked with the Pre-K teachers to host monthly parent enrichment workshop nights. Prior to this school year, Kenansville Pre-K was in another building so I was able to serve as a liaison for school related questions as well as support the multiple theme nights that were held.
Artifact 2: Parent & Community PBIS Manual
Understanding that PBIS was a new venture for Kenansville Elementary, I wanted to ensure that all stakeholders were aware of what PBIS consisted of. It was imperative that parents and community members were knowledgable of our program so they could re-enforce at home. Also, this manual helped us build community relationships for celebration donations. I worked with our guidance counselor to create this parent manual that was sent home. This manual goes into depth so parents know what we expect from their students as well as how we were going to reward students for exhibiting postive behaviors. |

Artifact 3: PTO & Parent Advisory Board
Understanding that parents/guardians are an important component of a school, I regularly attended PTO and Parent Advisory Meetings. I engaged in our fall raffle ticket festival by encouraging students to sell raffle tickets and also publicizing our fundraiser throughout the surrounding community.
As a member of the administrative team, I attended Parent Advisory Meetings. The representatives (ranging from 5-9 parents each meeting) on the Parent Advisory board provided the administrative team with insight about what the community believed the school could improve. The group met monthly with the main purpose to serve as a bridge between the community and the school. Although we had many crucial conversations, we were able to work out any of the concerns the community had and discuss how the representatives could assist with improving the school.

Artifact 4: Parent Communication Questionnaire
Receiving feedback from as many parents as possible helped with the decision making process throughout the year. I created this questionnaire that parents filled out so could you this data as a school to ensure we were meeting the needs of our parents.
Based off this data, we increased the number of opportunities that parents were invited to engage with their students at school. We also increased the frequency of our ConnectEd calls as well.

Element 6b. Federal, State and District Mandates: The school executive designs protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state, and district mandates.
Artifact 1: Map Creation for Location Purposes and to Ensure Stakeholder Safety
The 2017-2018 school year was the time with our new 3rd-8th grade wing. This summer I used the architecture blue blueprint to create a school map since we did not have one reflecting our new portion of the school created yet.
I followed the state and federal mandates in terms of the accurate distance from the building during a fire and windows for a tornado . The map I created displayed the route in which teachers were to exit the building during fire drills. Teachers also received a detailed manual with updated emergency policies and procedures.
Schools maps and emergency brochures are displayed in every classroom and office.

Artifact 2: Leading Monthly Drills (Fire, Tornado, Lock-Down, and Holding)
In September of this year, I facilitated a fire drill and lock-down drill. Prior to the drill, the administration team and custodial support staff were aware of the specified areas to cover.
In October, I served as the administrator during the staff active shooter training. Then, I facilitated a lockdown drill with our entire building after our teachers had been trained by the Duplin County Sheriffs Department.
In March, also facilitated the state wide tornado drill day with every student in the school. Teachers did an excellent job setting high expectations for their students during this drill.
